Keyboard Shortcuts

AtomGit provides a set of global keyboard shortcuts so you can quickly perform searches, navigate pages, and carry out daily development tasks without ever taking your hands off the keyboard.

  • View Shortcuts: Press ? (i.e., Shift + /) anywhere on the page to open the shortcut list.
  • Open Command Palette: Press Ctrl + K (Cmd + K on macOS), type keywords to search and directly execute available actions on the current page.

Key Instructions: Lowercase letters in the tables (e.g., t, c) are pressed directly without Shift. Shortcuts starting with g (stands for Go, as in Go to) require sequential pressing: press g, release it, and then press the second letter within 1.5 seconds.

Issue & Pull Request

Some shortcuts automatically adapt to different actions on the list page vs. the detail page (used for filtering on lists, and setting attributes on details):

Command Palette

When you can't remember a shortcut, press Ctrl + K (Cmd + K on macOS) anytime to open the Command Palette:

  • Quick Search: Directly type feature names (e.g., "Switch Branch") or corresponding keys to filter commands.
  • Keyboard-Only Operation: Use ↑ ↓ to navigate and press Enter to execute.

Disable Single-Letter Shortcuts (Accidental Trigger Prevention)

Shortcuts like s, c, g i that don't require Ctrl/Cmd modifiers (collectively referred to as character shortcuts) are enabled by default. To prevent accidental triggers while typing, the system will automatically pause these shortcuts in the following scenarios:

  • When the cursor is inside an input field, comment box, or online code editor;
  • When using a Chinese IME for spelling/text selection.

How to manually disable completely?

If you prefer to keep them disabled, press ? to open the shortcut list and uncheck the top toggle "Enable Character Shortcuts" (settings are automatically saved in your current browser).

  • After Disabling: All single-letter/symbol shortcuts (including ?) will no longer respond; however, modifier-key shortcuts like Ctrl + K / Cmd + K (Command Palette) and Ctrl + / / Cmd + / (Focus Filter Box) remain functional.
  • How to Re-enable: Since pressing ? won't work after disabling, press Ctrl + K / Cmd + K to open the Command Palette, search for and execute "Open Shortcut List", and re-check the toggle at the top of the popup.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why do g i, b in the repo, or a on the detail page not respond?

Shortcuts only activate when the corresponding feature exists on the current page and your account has the necessary permissions. For example:

  • If the repository hasn't enabled the Issues module, g i won't respond;
  • Pressing b in the folder list (rather than within a specific code file) won't open the Blame view;
  • Without edit permissions for the repository, pressing a, l, m on an Issue detail page won't expand the right-side settings panel.

2. Why doesn't pressing another letter after g trigger navigation?

Combination keys starting with g require the second key to be pressed within 1.5 seconds of releasing g. If timed out, it will automatically cancel; simply press g again.
